Especially in the current frenzy in the U.S. when "innovation" = financial incentives and deal making of all kinds is confused with improvement. Instead, we should be recommitting to learning what actually works to improve the health of those entrusted to our care. A very simple and compelling idea, yet one posing a huge challenge for most health care organizations.
I am joyously rediscovering the value and immense utility of Deming's System of Profound Knowledge in the work HQP undertakes everyday. It has applicability in all our work; assisting health systems to develop population health management capabilities, helping health plans and ACOs replicate our model of advanced preventive care, and managing the HQP team's development of our unique information system.
